Daily Ballot — Privacy Policy

Daily Ballot is a civic polling app. You browse a daily feed of polls curated from mainstream news sources and tap Yay or Nay. This policy explains exactly what we collect, how we use it, what we never do, and the choices you have. It is written to match what the app actually does — nothing more.

1. What we collect, and how

• Name (optional) — provided by Sign in with Apple, only if you choose to share it, and only at first sign-in. Editable later as your name, username, and bio.
• Email address — provided by Sign in with Apple (this may be an Apple private-relay address you can revoke). Also used as your profile email.
• Poll votes — the polls you voted on and the direction of each vote. Because these can reflect political opinions, we treat them as sensitive information. They are stored against your account only so we can prevent duplicate voting and compute aggregate totals.
• Account identifier — a server-issued account ID tied to your session.
• Support messages — anything you send us through the in-app Help & feedback screen.
• Anonymous poll views — a per-poll view counter recorded without your account attached; it stores the poll and a timestamp only, and is not linked to you.

2. What we do NOT collect

We do not collect a phone number (there is no SMS or phone sign-in), precise or coarse device location, your photos or videos (an avatar you choose stays on your device), an advertising identifier, browsing history, contacts, health, financial, or purchase data. There is no crash/diagnostics SDK.

3. How we use it, and who we share it with

We use the data above to let you vote, manage your account, surface polls relevant to your interests and jurisdiction, compute aggregate poll totals, and keep the service stable. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we use no third-party analytics, advertising, or attribution partners. Data is handled only by the infrastructure providers that host the service on our behalf (for example, cloud hosting), acting as processors under our instructions. If we ever add attribution or analytics, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy labels before any such code ships.

4. Your choices and rights

• Delete your account permanently: Settings → Privacy → Delete my account. This removes your identity, votes, and content; aggregate totals that no longer identify you may remain.
• Access, correct, or port your data, or ask any question, by emailing us (Section 7).

5. Vote privacy

Your individual votes are never displayed alongside your identity anywhere in the app. We do not surface the direction of your vote on any poll, and we do not expose the list of polls you have voted on to other users, advertisers, campaigns, or governments. Only aggregate totals (for example, "62% Yay, 38% Nay") are public, computed from all votes without revealing who cast each one.

6. California & other US privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to access or delete it, to correct it, and to receive a portable copy. The categories we collect and our purposes are listed in Sections 1 and 3; sensitive personal information (your votes) is used only for the app functionality described above and is never sold. We do not sell or share your personal information, so no "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" action is required — but you can still exercise any of the rights above by contacting us. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

7. Children

Daily Ballot is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
